bike trip

We took the train to Den Helder and then a short ferry ride to the island of Texel.

All of the Netherlands has a fantastic network of bicycle routes, Texel included. The bicycle rental shop is right at the ferry terminal on the island.

The bikes were typically Dutch: old fashioned, heavy, tall handlebars, and with all sorts of gadgets for transporting things. The bike resists any effort to pedal fast, instead encouraging a relaxed cruising pace.

We cycled to a couple towns, through the pine forest, across the dunes to the beach on the North Sea, and through the farmland. Lots of fun.
