This is a first attempt at time lapse footage using Camera Control Pro and my Nikon D80. The software allows a computer to control the camera, telling it to take a shot at a certain interval and then downloading the file straight to the hard drive.
The seeds were planted one week ago and are just starting to come up. I forced myself to get out of bed just before dawn to set the thing going. Maybe I could have slept in a bit because I ended up with a couple hundred frames of black.
Right now the camera battery is the limiting factor. After about 500 frames it dies - and this explains why the first shot cuts out just as it starts to get interesting. I ordered an AC adapter for the camera - pretty overpriced for what it is, I think. The possibilities are endless. Hopefully the life of these plants over the season can be a little movie project in itself.
It seems like plants are most active (if they could ever be called that) at sunrise and sunset. During the day they just seem to hang out while the light is even though we did have a pretty flat grey day.
